šŸ”ŠThe Top 5 Stories:

1. Big Day for AaaS (AI-as-a-Service)

Alright I know, the name needs a little bit of work. However yesterday, two notable partnerships were formed, solidifying AI's transformative potential for businesses worldwide: AWS partnering with Hugging Face and Bain teaming up with OpenAI.

  • First up, Amazon is the first behemoth getting an AI facelift: Amazon Web Services (AWS), the cloud computing arm of Amazon.com Inc (AMZN.O), on Tuesday said it is collaborating with startup Hugging Face, a software development hub, to make it easier to carry out artificial intelligence work (AI) in Amazon's cloud. Clem Delangue, Hugging Face CEO, also said the next generation of Bloom, an open-source AI model that competes in size and scope with the model that Microsoft-backed OpenAI used to create ChatGPT, will be run on Trainium, a proprietary artificial intelligence chip created by AWS.

  • Next up, The management consulting firm, Bain & Company is partnering to form a global services alliance with OpenAI, the research and deployment company behind the AI systems ChatGPT, DALLĀ·E and Codex. The objective is to bring AI capabilities to their clients worldwide. The Coca-Cola Company will be the first of Bain’s clients to join the collaboration in an effort to leverage AI to create innovation business automation & solutions. With AI apps saturating the market, distribution becomes the key differentiator. Companies that already have relationships with enterprises have a leg up on the rest in offering them AI products.

2. Hey, how much do you want for that Prompt?

There's now a marketplace to buy, sell & trade AI prompts:

A prompt is simply a specific set of instructions or questions that you provide to an AI, such as ChatGPT, which helps the AI provide the response you are looking for. In addition, prompts are also how AI models are trained and fine-tuned before they get released. So the better the prompt, the more accurate and useful the AI output will be whether its in testing or production.

Having a AI Prompt marketplace enables better high-end results, savings for startups & businesses on API costs & also now allows others the ability to monetize from their own creative prompts!

3. AI is taking over accelerator YCombinator's Winter '23 Cohort

The California based accelerator, Y Combinator revealed their Winter Startup ā€˜23 cohort and of the 187 batch 36 are generative AI based startups making up nearly 20% of the entire group. Covering a wide range of industries from customer success, marketing, developer tools, finance & accounting. The expectation is that the number of startups & established companies utilizing AI will only continue to grow. Below is a visual map detailing the YC Winter '23 Gen-AI Landscape šŸ’„

4. China regulators rein in AI chatbots over fears of uncensored replies

According to a recent report this week from The Verge, Chinese tech giants Tencent and Ant Group (a subsidiary of e-commerce giant Alibaba) have reportedly been told not to offer public access to the US-developed ChatGPT over fears the tool will give ā€œuncensored repliesā€ to politically sensitive questions. These companies have already had to censor the output of AI tools like image generators earlier this year.

In addition to the restricted access to ChatGPT, Chinese based companies will also have to report to officials before launching their own rival chatbots. There is increasingly growing fears within China's tech community that such heavy handed censorship will only further slow AI development in the region.

5. Hundreds of AI-written books flood Amazon

AI-powered book writing has become a hot topic as almost 300 books written or co-written by OpenAI’s ChatGPT have been listed on Amazon. The books range from fantasy fiction to self-help and non-fiction. Some people have even used ChatGPT with other generative AI software to create illustrated children’s books. However, due to many authors' failure to disclose their use of ChatGPT, it is almost impossible to get a full accounting of how many e-books may be written by AI. The emergence of ChatGPT has already raised concerns over authenticity, as it learns how to write by scanning millions of pages of existing text.

Nonetheless, aspiring authors looking to make a quick buck are turning to the software to help create bot-made e-books and publish them through Amazon’s Kindle Direct Publishing arm. This has raised concerns from writers’ group the Authors Guild, which called for transparency from the authors and platforms about how these books are created to avoid flooding the market with low-quality books. Despite this, Amazon did not address whether it had plans to change or review its Kindle store policies around authors’ use of AI or other automated writing tools.
